Pavloff Family Tragedy Photo

NIAGARA FALLS, NY  (Oakwood Cemetery) - On July 4,1927 a car rounded the corner of Hyde Park Blvd. (then Sugar Street) and Buffalo Avenue and was struck by a train.  The driver/father of the Pavloff family survived, along with an older son, however, 7 other members were killed.  The mother, Mary 38, Andrew 16, Michael 11, Theodore 9, Margaret 7, Walter 5, and Carl 3 all succumbed to their injuries.  Despite his severe injury, Samuel Pavloff left the hospital to attend the funeral where 7 hearses were all lined up on the street.

Mary's great grand daughter, Corrine McCowen Squires has graciously donated a photo of the family laid out at the Cobler Funeral home.  The newpaper article is very well written and puts you in that place.  This picture just underscores the magnitude of the family tragedy that touched the entire city.  Click on the photo to read the article.
